What is a favicon?
an icon associated with an URL that is variously displayed, as in a browser’s address bar or next to the site name in a bookmark list.
Why do I need a favicon?
Well, let’s think of the implications of doing business online. You need something that identifies you, which is why you create a brand. We are now in such a dependency of the internet that people actually pay attention when they notice the icon is missing on their browser. Meaning that having favicons has established some sort of credibility when heading to your site. It also helps your visitors recognize and remember you.
How do I create a favicon?
There are two ways to do this, there’s the way I recommend and the lazy way using the theme customizer.
The Lazy Way:
create a graphic that is 512×512 pixel then upload to Site Identity
The Recommended Way:
Create a graphic is is 16×16 or 32×32 pixels. Save the file as a .ico you’ll have to do this manually.
Then FTP the file into your themes images folder. Don’t worry it will replace the current one. Also, make sure to clear your browser cache so it can update and load.
