Ever been for your FTP credentials and didn’t know what the meant? I have seen this reply many times when developing a site for a client.
What is FTP?
FTP actually means Files Transfer Protocol. It consists of a host, username, password and port number.
- Hostname: ftp.yoursite.com
- Username: username or username@yoursite.com
- Password: IGotAComplicatedOrder78
- Port Number: 21
How can I find my FTP credentials?
This is usually sent to you when you sign up for a hosting plan. You’ll need to check the very first email you received from them. If you don’t have it you’ll need to contact your hosting company or create a new FTP account from your cPanel.
How do I create an FTP account?
So now the next time your designer or developer asks for our FTP information. You’ll no longer draw a blank you’ll know exactly what to give them.
