What is the Genesis Framework?
Frameworks are intended to be used as a parent theme template where all the functionality resides. Developers can then create a child theme to add custom styling while leaving the functionality aspects of it to the framework. This allows for a centralized location where all the functions are hosted. The Genesis Framework is just that and is used in all cases as the parent theme.
What is a Child Theme?
A child theme is a theme that inherits the functionality and styling of another theme, called the parent theme. Child themes are the recommended way of modifying an existing theme.
To simplify…
Genesis is the frame, engine, and tires of your car, while the child theme is the kick-ass paint job. Pimp My Ride anyone?
How do I install both the Genesis Framework and a Child theme?
From the Dashboard click on Appearance > Themes > Add New > Upload Theme.
Note: You’ll need to have Genesis installed before activating the child theme.
